Borders, to have or not
We can offer prints in a range of standard or non standard sizes, when we will send out an order form we will need confirmation of the finished print size (print size / paper size - including any borders etc). If you are unsure we can chat with you and confirm everything first.
Border vs edge to edge printing
You may want to include a border, this can be used for the artist to sign or name the print and the border simply sits under the mount. Alternatively you may want to use the border as a feature or to have a deckled (torn) edge to frame the image.
A simple guide when deciding on a border is that the photograph takes up 80% of the print. The two sides (width and length) take up 10% of the width.
The top of the border will depend on the relationship between the print and frame size, it is often 10% which is the same as the sides but it could be offset and the bottom border could take up 13% or more of the height. By using these dimensions, there is space at the bottom of the border to add a description, a signature and an edition number.
